Mobile Phones And The Drawbacks Of Having One

October 30th, 2010

It really is hard to picture a world where there are no mobile phones. Just fifteen years ago, the mobile phone was really a novelty item but these days they are important parts of almost everyone’s life. The mobile phone has allowed us to stay in touch with each other like we were never able to in the past. Our friends and family can easily be contacted no matter where we are in the world. Although owning a mobile phone is not all good as there are some drawbacks to having one of these devices too.

- Many people who were using their mobile phone while driving have caused serious car accidents. That is why some people believe that using a mobile phone while driving can be as bad if not worse than drink driving. For that reason, hands free kits have become quite popular in many countries.

- Trying to actually sit down and have a conversation with another person is becoming more difficult these days. Most chats are interrupted by the need to answer the mobile phone or reply to a text. So no one really gets a chance to have a deep and meaningful conversation with anyone and chats really never have much meaning anymore.

- Mobile phones have made it much harder for people to switch off. Even if we go out for a walk in nature most of us will bring our mobile phone with us. Getting a chance to unwind really is something that most people miss out on.

- It is very easy for our bosses to invade our private time when we have mobile phones. Even on your day off you may find that your boss will call you if the job is short staffed or if they need your help with a particular problem.

- The use of texting has led to deterioration in people’s ability to write and spell.

- Most of us feel that we have to continuously update our mobile phones because of the fact that the technology is being constantly updated by manufacturers meaning we really are just wasting money.

Old Mobile Phones – What To Consider Before Selling Them

October 8th, 2010

You will have a bit of extra money in your pocket if you sell your old mobile phone. However you might end up being a little bit disappointed with the price you get for your old phone as they do tend to depreciate quite quickly in value. Selling mobile phones can also feel like a bit of a chore and this is one reason why a lot of people don’t even bother. This is a shame though because getting money for your old phone is much better than just leaving it gathering dust in your home. When it comes to selling old mobile phones, the following are some of the things you should consider.

- It is probably not the best idea to try and sell your phone to a phone shop or to trade it in against a new phone because they tend to offer the lowest prices. The reason for this is because they want to make a profit on your old phone so they are not going to give you the full value. You would be better off selling the phone yourself because then at least you will get the full value for it.

- Selling phones privately is something that a lot of people are put off by because they feel that they won’t be able to find any interested buyers. This doesn’t have to be the case though as there are plenty of places to put free ads. If you are looking for the best place to sell of your old unwanted items then the internet really is the number one.

- If you want to know how much you should be selling your old phone for then you should do a bit of research online to see what other people are selling similar phones for.

- Most people will have two prices in mind when they go to sell their used phone; the amount they would like to get and the least amount they are willing to accept. Before you try to sell your old phone, you should have these prices set in your mind.

Steps To Take If Your Mobile Phones Gets Wet

If your mobile phone gets wet it can be a really big problem; this would be even worse if you happen to have a new iPhone. One way that mobile phones quite often end up getting wet is when they are accidentally dropped down the toilet. Here are a few tips for how you can save your mobile phone if this happens. There is no guarantee that any of these will work but it worth trying if it can save the phone.

- The very first thing that you should do is to take the battery out. By taking away the source of power you can try to avoid a short circuit from happening which can often occur because of the fact that water is a conductor of electricity.

- Another thing that should be removed very quickly is the SIM card especially if you want to save the contents on it. If you want to dry the card in the safest way possible you should use a dry towel. It may be the case that you will have to go to an expert to get your data back but sometimes there is absolutely nothing you can do about it.

- Give your phone a good shake to get rid of as much water as possible. The best thing is to get rid of as much water as possible. You can get rid of even more water if you use dry paper towels.

- Put your phone outside in the sun, but make sure that it is not in direct sunlight. Hopefully this will ensure that most of the moisture is dried up. But obviously this won’t work on a rainy day or in the middle of winter when it is cold and damp.

- You may find that it takes weeks before your phone can be used again but sometimes the damage simply cannot be reversed and it won’t work again.

Choosing Between Pay As You Go Or A Contract Mobile Phone

September 8th, 2010

If you have to choose between pay as you go or a contract for your mobile then you may find the choice a little bit difficult. Not everyone will want to make the same choice or would even be able to make the same choice as it will all depend on personal circumstances. What you probably don’t want is to find yourself locked into a contract that is just not suitable. What follows are just a few things that are worth considering before making this decision between the two options.

- Will you be using the mobile phone quite a lot or not that much? Pay and go is probably the best choice for you if you don’t spend a lot of time making calls every month. But if you think that you are going to be spending a lot of time on the phone then you may want to consider a contract as you will benefit from cheaper calls. There are a number of people who only carry around a mobile phone so that they can be contactable and for them pay as you go is the answer.

- If you decide to go with pay as you go, you need to remember that you will probably have certain benefits that will require you to top up a certain amount each month or these benefits will be lost. If you are expecting really light use make sure that you choose a contract that lets you go a long time before topping up.

- If you usually make quite a few international calls then you may be better off with a contract phone but you need to make sure it is right for you. Have a look to see what kind of deals are on offer for contract or pay as you go.

- If you intend to be doing things like texting or going online then of course you will need to also consider this as well. There are a number of contracts which will incorporate free texts and which will give you a certain amount of time online. If your number one priority is to be able to get onto the internet with your phone then look for a deal which leans towards this.

Why Recycling Mobile Phones Is A Good Idea

September 8th, 2010

There are many people who change their mobile phone often; I am one of these people. I have accumulated many mobile phones over the years as I tend to get a new one every six to twelve months. I previously tried to exchange-in my old phones when purchasing new ones, but the rates offered were usually insultingly low. This has meant that I just held on to them. Last week I decided to check how many mobiles I had lying around and was surprised to find that I had eight; seven of these won’t ever be used by me again. This really seemed like such a waste so I was very interested when I came across an article explaining all about mobile phone recycling.

To be perfectly honest, I would prefer to donate a mobile phone then to get a pittance for it from a mobile phone shop. I feel happier in the knowledge that I am doing something to help other people and on top of that I don’t feel like I have been cheated. It seems like a great idea to me that these phones are sent to people in parts of the world which are underprivileged. There is nothing functionally wrong with my old phones; I just don’t use them anymore. I have actually included an old iPhone in my donation and this will probably be a nice surprise for someone.

When it comes to donating mobile phones it really isn’t any hardship at all. I would have done it a lot sooner if I’d know about. And I will be making sure that I do this from now on. If I am not going to be using my old mobile phones anymore then I don’t see why someone else shouldn’t get teh benefit of them. It really does seem like a good plan to me because I get someone to take my unwanted items and someone else who couldn’t afford a phone gets one courtesy of me. I would recommend to other people to do the same if they have some mobile phones lying around doing no good.

World Of Mobile Phones And The Language Used

September 7th, 2010
Comments Off

Many people can be put off going out to buy a new mobile phone because they are confused by all the terminology that is often used. The language associated with mobile phones seems to becoming more complex as mobile phones become more sophisticated. Here are just some of the most common mobile phone terms you are likely to hear.

- GSM stands for Global Systems for Mobile Communications. This system is by far the most popular one for mobile phone communications; you really can’t argue with 43 billion users worldwide.

- 1G, 2G, 3G, & 4G mobile phones. What is meant by the G with all these mobile phones is generation. The first phones that came out were considered 1G phones as in 1st generation and the ones that are out now are fourth generation phones. Fifth generation phones seem to be on the cards these days. The newer phones are able to handle a lot more data than any phones in the past.

- SIM Card. The word SIM stands for Subscriber Identity Module and this is where all the information about the subscriber’s identity is stored. Each SIM card will contain a unique identity number as well as their passwords. You cannot use the phone properly without a SIM card.

- Bluetooth. Most phones come with an open wireless network known as Bluetooth and this lets them pass information to and from each other’s phone over a specific distance. Bluetooth is useful because it allows you to easily pass data between the phones.

- SMS is Short Messaging Services. When talking about SMS we are referring to how two phones can communicate with each other.

- When it comes to sending things such as photos, videos, music files or ringtones to each other it is done through MMS (multimedia messaging service).

- Many mobile phones now have GPS which refers to Global Positional Services. The reason for having this function is to ensure that our location can be found by using the mobile phone.

SD Cards can be found in countless products nowadays. 32gb Ultra SD cards happen to be a great example of this. One more that you could find on your travels is the R4i.

Is The Traditional Mobile Phone On The Way Out

September 4th, 2010

The fact that we have only been using mobile phones for over two decades means that calling them traditional might sound a little bit strange. But lately it looks as though we are seeing the traditional mobile phone replaced by phones such as the iPhone. It may be that in the near future the standard push button mobile phone will be as old fashioned as the gramophone.

Why People Are No Longer Happy With The Traditional Mobile Phone.

If you want to know why people are losing interest in the traditional mobile phone then think back to why the black and white TV became uninteresting for people. We are all hoping to have the new technology which has come along to replace it. No one can doubt the fact that any changes which have come along have been adapted to well by the mobile phone; until now anyway. But recent changes seem to suggest that it will not be able to keep up with developments. These days we are not satisfied with just using our mobile phones to phone people and to take phone calls; we want our mobiles to double up as an entertainment centre as well. We now want our phones to also be eBook Readers, video players, web browsers, and personal trainers. We also want to be able to play games on our phone but not just any old game; we won’t stand for poor quality games anymore and want something on a par with a games console game.

Should We Be Grieving For The Traditional Mobile Phone’s Death.

No way, keep the new technology coming is what I say. Nobody knows what type of devices we will be using in another couple of decades but we can be almost guaranteed that the top of the range phones we are using now will be considered extremely old fashioned by then. One of the best things about the world is getting to experience all the new developments in technology. Just think ahead to when the iPhone is replaced by something even better and we consider having an iPhone as being behind the times.

Mobile Phone Purchase – Some Great Advice

July 24th, 2010

There really is just so much to choose from if you are looking to purchase a mobile phone. However the downside of this is that you may find it difficult to actually find the best one to suit your requirements. Many people make the mistake of choosing a mobile phone because it seems fancy; this can be a waste of money if the phone isn’t a good fit for your needs. Here is a bit of advice to help you get the most from your mobile phone.

- What functions will you want your phone to have? You will only want a simple phone if making and receiving calls is all you are planning to do with it. You may find it too complicated to use a phone that has a number of features that you don’t require and you will save money by purchasing a phone that doesn’t have them. Many of us already have phones which are full of different features and functions while there are many people who really just don’t care about these things. But if gadgets are your thing, then have a good look round because you may well find that you can get a top of the range phone which comes complete with a book reader or even a movie player.

- What is the battery life? Batteries on mobile phones can be drained much quicker if you are using a lot of features. Think about this before you buy a phone especially if you want to be able to go a long time between recharging the battery.

- Is it a brand name phone? You might be taking a risk by purchasing a mobile phone from a little known manufactuer. Even though it may cost quite a bit less, if something were to go wrong it could be harder to get fixed. Take time to consider a purchase such as this.

So there you have just a few ideas about how to pick the best phone for your needs. If you are careful with your choice then you can be sure that your phone will last you for many years.
