Smartphones Will Soon Have Voice To Voice Translation By Google

Until now Google had text translation service on computers which would convert the text written in one language to another language. For instance, if you write something in English, using the Google text translator facility you could convert it into Spanish. Any of the 52 lanuages in the Google list, for that matter.

Also, in the past Google introduced Voice Search application. This system allows the user to search the web using one’s voice. And now Google is planning to include both these properties i.e. speech recognition and text translation, and apply it on Smartphones. case you are still not clear, Google is aiming at Voice-to-Voice translation facility. If a user talks in English and wishes that the message is received at the other end in German, this Voice-to-Voice service will do that for you and translate the speaker’s English into the receiver’s German.

And this has been affirmed by the Google’s Head of Translation service, Franz Och. He has confirmed that his team is working on this voice to voice translation help on Smartphones.

To us it certainly seems like the first of its kind technology. No, its not. Sometime back A Gulf company; Sakhr has already developed this technology and has already offered their service to Smartphone companies like iPhone and Blackberry. But their service extends only up to translation from Arabic to English and English to Arabic. You may like to watch the video under this post on OnlyGizmos.Com- Google Working On Voice-To-Voice Translation For Smartphones.

The service may take some time, and will be ready probably in a year’s time. A voice-to-voice translation on Smartphone would take the communication industry a step higher. But let’s wait and see how many languages Google Voice-to-Voice translator will translate- 52 languages like Google text translator or more languages than that. Only time and Google can tell.

Things Worsening Between Apple And Google

These days we’ve been listening a lot about Apple-Google rivalry. The biggest among the news is the replacement of Google search engine by Bing (Microsoft). If this happens, quite a lot in the web industry may change. That aside, there’s some issue between Google and Apple about patent rights.

I didn’t know this until I saw this little post on iphonehelp referring to the touch screen problem between Apple and Google. I had believed it had been search engine that was resulting in the whole problem, but, no, there’s more to only one problem.

Apple a while ago had asked Google of keeping touch screen out of Nexus One. One would wonder why Apple doesn’t file a lawsuit rather than sending out requests to Google to not incorporate touch screen element in its first mobile phone attempt. The fact is Apple has no alternative other than requesting- the patent rights of touch screen aren’t quite strong. So even if Apple files a case against a manufacturer, there are good chances that Apple will lose it.

There has already been great amount of conflict between Apple and Google – remember the latest one on Google Voice on iPhone? Apple had restrictedthis app to be used on iPhone. (Read the complete story here: GV Mobile Out on Cydia Gets Google Voice on iPhone) The problems between the two big wigs are clearly seen even if they deny accepting it.

This time it is a bit hard to anticipate anything as the two greatest tech corporations are involved in it. Prior to now they have also had troubles around Chrome OS. And now some legal issues over touch screen application.  Let’s see what the outcome would be like. Surely not a positive one (with Google in the mobile phone market, things will only worsen.)

Google Voice pushes telecommunications into the future.

A respected pioneer in web technology, creating the most popular search site in use today, Google stands at the forefront of companies pushing towards a future that is inextricably tied to the rapidly developing world of the Net.

With some of the most brilliant minds at work under their roof, the services coming from their ingenuity have fundamentally changed how we communicate with each other.  From Gmail to Google Wave, to competition that desperately plays “catch up,” evidence of this company’s forward-thinking innovation abounds.

One of their more fascinating services is Google Voice, a telecommunications marvel that extends users a singular phone number from Google, to which any calls to your real telephone – or, if you so choose, multiple phones will be transferred.

How it works :

* User creates ( assuming it’s not taken ) a new telephone number or selects one from a pool of numbers made available by Google.
* Once the Google Voice number has been selected, inbound calls to that number will be forwarded to the assigned phones.

As an example, take the following scenario as testament to the convenience afforded by Google Voice :

While in the kitchen fixing dinner, you’re awaiting a call from your brother about your sister-in-law’s pregnancy, knowing that she’s due any minute.  Your cell phone, which is your first method of communication, is upstairs.  Yet, your home is also outfitted with a land line, with one telephone located just a foot away from the kitchen counter.  Without knowing if you’re home or not, your brother excitedly dials your Google Voice number, leading to his call being forward to every phone assigned to it – including your land line.

With configuration requiring just some steps, use of this service is that easy, gathering our different modes of telecommunication under the umbrella of Google Voice.

Additional features include :

* Voicemail
* Call History
* Conference Calling
* Call Blocking
* Voice transcription ( translating your voice mail into texts )
* Call transitioning, which lets you migrate from one phone to next in the middle of a call.

Google now permits you to use your existing phone number with Google Voice, a feature that was only just announced.  Your present number can be employed together with a new Google Voice number.  To read more about this new feature, visit here
