The Facebook phone could be the latest rumor about the company’s intentions that comes to nothing. Facebook claims it has no interest in pursuing the production of Smartphone’s. It just wants to integrate with more Smartphone’s. CNN reports that Facebook is well-known for leaking ideas, but the business either scraps them outright or pursues an entirely different tangent. In 2008 rumors arose about a Facebook music service to compete with MySpace Music, however no such service has yet emerged. An additional competitor idea that never happened was “Facebook Wallet.” Facebook was expected to compete against PayPal. Facebook made an announcement about that earlier this year. It will be working with EBay’s PayPal to create a new service called Facebook Credits.

John C. Abell at Wired thinks there would be no purpose for a Facebook cell phone. “The tail wagging the dog” is what Abell claims the concept of a Facebook cell phone is. A Facebook phone isn’t something that people would want over their original phones. These individuals want their Androids and iPhone still. Developing Facebook applications is what Robert Scobe at Business Insider thinks Facebook should do. He mentions deficiencies for instance better support for contacts, photos and video. Many involve disallowing Apple’s monopolistic ability to restrict access to legitimate sites or programs. And some iPhone apps have “shuttered” or shut down sections, which can affect people adversely, such as a downloaded ebook whose read-aloud function is blocked and can’t be used by blind people.
