Sony Cell Phone

Sony and Ericsson brought a unique trait to the Sony cell phone as a product that won the market of mobile communications. The founders of Sony Corporation were Masaru Ibuka and Akio Morita, however, they are not the parents of the Sony cell phone. The headquarters  of the company are at Minato, Tokyo, Japan. Sony belongs to the wider range of consumer electronics and entertainment industry as they produce audio, video, televisions, communications and information, semiconductors, electronic components, motion picture, music, online business and play-station devices. In 2008 the company’s total income was US$ 4 billion from the total revenue of US$ 100 billion. In March 2008 the number of employees the company had was 180,500.

From a historical point of view, Sony has been notable for their standards for new recording and storage technologies, as they did not adopt those discoveries issued by other manufacturers and standard bodies. The standard products designed and manufactured over the years include Umatic (~1968), Betamax (1975), Betacam (81), Compact Disc (82), 3.5 inch Floppy Disk (82), Video8 (85), DAT (87), Hi8 (88), Minidisc (~90), Digital Betacam (~90), miniDV (92), Memory Stick (98), Digital8 (99), PSP Universal Media Disc (~2003), HDV (~2004), Blu-ray Disc (2006). People will therefore know more about such consumer electronics than about the Sony cell phone that is a relatively new creation. Therefore, the correct name for a Sony cell phone is Sony Ericsson mobile.

After their association, Sony and Ericsson became famous in the field of cell phone design due to their Walkman and Cyber-shot phones, getting to the fifth place among the top companies of the world, after LG, Nokia, Samsung and Motorola. The most famous Walkman mobiles were by far K750i and W800i, each with a great music playback range and two low-end phones included; both mobiles were launched in March 2005. A few months later, in October, another Sony cell phone – the P990 – was released, being the first mobile phone based on UIQ 3.

Another successful Sony cell phone belongs from the Cyber-shot brand. This one – the K750, was also launched in 2005 and became one of the most popular Sony Ericsson phones. Unlike the Walkman had the disadvantage of a poor camera, the Cyber-shot phone included both great cameras and decent viewing media.

Sony Ericsson

Sony Ericsson is a joint venture established on October 3, 2001 by the Japanese consumer electronics company Sony Corporation and the Swedish telecommunications company Ericsson to make mobile phones. The company has its headquarters in Sweden and London, UK. The company has its research and development teams in Sweden, China, Japan, the US, Germany, Pakistan, India, and Great Britain.

PThe reason stated for this venture was to combine the consumer electronics expertise from Sony with the technological leadership in the communications sector from Ericsson. As a result both companies ceased making their own mobile phones. Due to their policy and business strategy, by 2008, the company was the fifth largest manufacturer of cell phones in the world. Sony Ericsson follows companies like Motorola, LG, Nokia and Samsung. Sony Ericsson’s sales of products very much increased after the launch on the market of the Walkman and Cyner-shot series.

Sony Ericsson’s products include the following: mobile phones, mpbile music devices, wireless systems, wireless data devices, wireless voice devices and hi-tech accessories. The company’s total profit of the overall sales reached the impressive figure of 73 million Euro in 2008. Plus, there were almost ten thousands people working for the corporation in July 2008 which pretty much tells something about the extent and importance of the business. Sony corporation has half of the company and the other 50% belongs to Ericsson AB.

As we’ve already said, Sony Ericsson increased its market preponderance with cyber-shot and Walkman collections. In 2005, on March 1, the company came up with the K750i with a 2 megapixel camera and W800i, its platform mate, which were the first Walkman cell phones ever produced. The performance of this telephone was its capability of playing 30 hours of music playback and two low-end phones. In October 2005, the company launched the P990, which made the first device relying on UIQ 3 technology. The other successful achievement that Sony Ericsson had was the Cyber-shot brand, launched in 2005 by the K750.

This was one of the most popular Sony Ericsson phones. At the time this phone’s memory card capability was very innovative, which would explain the success. The difference between the Cyber-shot and the Walkman resides in the quality of the media viewing and cameras which is higher in the Cyber-shot. There are five large categories of products developed by Sony Ericsson on the whole : the W Walkman series music phones, the Cyber-shot branded line of phones, the BRAVIA-branded line of phones, the UIQ smart phones, and the Xperia range of cellulars.

Sony Phones

Most of us have difficulties at remembering cell phone names, because every company has its own way of denominating products. Sony Ericsson makes no difference from other major producers as most of the formats used for naming mobile items rely on five or six characters with both letters and figures. In an example like K750i, the capital letter represents the series of the Sony phones, while the remaining characters have each an attached meaning. Thus, the first figure defines the sub-category, the third indicates the progression made from the former product release while the last can either be a 0 or an 8. The last elements of such phone names also brings some kind of information.

Whether an 8 or a 0, such characters in the names of Sony phones refer to the product peculiarity when produced for a foreign market. Or, the number can set apart Sony phones that have identical technical features but different designs. The final lowercase letter designates the market for which the Sony phones models are produced: thus, there will be ‘a’ for the America, ‘c’ for China and ‘i’ for the international market. In case the name of the product includes an ‘im’ particle, then, this will refer to the i-mode branding.

This is not the only way of naming Sony phones, since more recent formats or design follow a pattern made of three characters such as the P1i for instance. The capital letter tells the series of the phone, the number refers to progression as related to the previous releases and just as in the above model, the lowercase letter describes the target market. Code names are also attributed to Sony phones particularly to those that are in the process of development or improvement. Most such names are taken from the female tennis player sponsored by Sony Ericsson. You can find lists with such code names on all sorts of web pages if you are interested in the topic.

The information encoded in the names of Sony phones is not easy to decipher by the average buyer who knows nothing of previous models, series or sub-series. Retailers will always have a large gallery of products including older models as well as the latest, and people keep guiding their choices after design and price tag. In fact, design comes before technical improvement in most of the new models launched by various producers.

Sony Ericsson Z520a

The new Sony Ericsson Z520a is described by reviewers as a great deal for anyone. It attracts with two smart features regarding the light system. One of the company’s logos is ‘Light up your world’ so you can imagine that one of the phone’s special characteristics is its system of lighting up. The light effects will be mostly noticed when there is an incoming call or an unread message waiting in the inbox. Sony Erricson Z520a makes it possible to attach photos for every contact, and the caller will be identified before your opening the phone.

Due to such eye-catching features, the mobile phones market has grown larger. Besides the fact that you can visualize the picture, hear the sound and see the pattern of lights for a certain contact, a smart characteristic of Sony Ericsson Z520a is that it allows you to see who is calling before you actually open the phone since the picture is displayed on the external screen.

You can even take Sony Ericsson Z520a as a funny lightweight toy you can enjoy every day. It may appear bulkier as compared to other phones, but that is only because it is a fold model. Once you unfold it, you will see how thin it actually looks. There is a 128×160 pixel resolution and it uses the new TFT technology (Thin Film Transistor) which is very similar to the LCD frame in the use of liquid crystals. In case you care about the color choice, then you should know that there are three colors that it comes in: new blue, chalky white and sandy gray. All three designs look elegant, and it’s just a matter of personal preference.

The buyer could also be interest in the battery performance of Sony Ericsson Z520a. The producer brags that the phone offers 16 MB memory, yet the free memory in reality may be much less than that depending on how the phone has been configured. The battery is said to last up to 9 hours talk time and around 400 hours standby time. You can learn about other phone features from various retailers that advertise the product or by checking the official web page; most often you’ll come across the music option, the connectivity feature, the organizer and several other advantages of Sony Ericsson Z520a.

Sony Ericsson W800i

July 15th, 2009
Comments Off

Sony Ericsson W800i was the first mobile in the Sony series to incorporate Walkman capabilities. The new modern design brought Bluetooth features, the Infrared and USB connectivity, all part of a very trendy look. This phone model was released in 2005, and although lots of new features were added to more modern phones ever since, Sony Ericsson W800i is the one that started it all. The external memory has only 2 gigabytes of storage, but we have to consider the period when it was designed and produced. For that moment in particular, such memory size was enough.

There are video recording features incorporated in the Sony Ericsson W800i, the camera has an autofocus and a flash. Moreover, the playback time for the device when operated in the music mode is of thirty hours which definitely means a lot if we consider the life extent of modern batteries. In fact, if the phone is on standby for a longer period of time, then, recharging will only be necessary now and then. According to the specifications, the battery has a 400-hour operational period and a talk time of nine hours. Sony Ericsson W800i can be still purchased from many retailers, and at more accessible prices than a year or two ago.

A minor disadvantage of this phone is the fact that it relies on a joystick for memory navigation. Lots of users claim that this is more susceptible to damage and in time functionality problems tend to appear. Sony Ericsson W800i can be also very prone to minor breaks, scratching or wearing in time particularly if its treatment is not adequate. Complaints have been made about the fact that very often dust gets inside the display and blurs visibility. Yet, such inconveniences are pretty rare and have not prevented Sony Erricsson W800i from becoming very popular and well sold.

A very unfair competition for Sony Ericsson W800i is the Music Mobile W800c, produced in China. The similarity with the Sony product is striking, and it is doubtless that the producers took more than simple inspiration from the W800i series. The quality of this fake model is doubtful and Sony Ericsson W800i in its original variant is definitely superior. Should you come across this item while searching for a good mobile, don’t take the price tag as its only recommendation. Otherwise, you may waste your money on a poor mobile device that can fail you any moment!

Sony Ericsson W850i

Belonging to the sliders’ category, Sony Ericsson W850i, brought a major innovation of design as compared to former models. A built-in Walkman and a big display, with these two features, Sony Ericsson W850i made good sales. While many knowledgeable buyers often consider both features and designs, less informed users are won over by the look of the phone. Available either white or black, this phone seems to give a touch of elegance to the user; the main merit here comes from the 24 carat gold Walkman logo that catches the eye and makes an impression.

Sony Ericsson W850i is a really beautiful phone both on the outside and on the inside. The keypad is modern, featuring a light effect in the form of pulses that follow the music beat. On the inside, the music player is high class, you’ll enjoy a crystal clear sound both for the Walkman and the radio. If you buy the promotional phone package, you’ll get an incorporated Mega Bass feature and a stereo headset to match. Music lovers really enjoy this mobile device thanks to its 1GB memory stick Pro Duo, which means that the phone can store around 250 tracks and still work well.

The designers have also brought improvements in what the management option is concerned. The drag and drop operation allows an easy and quick file transfer by means of the USB cable. The Walkman software also enables the music download directly to the phone at a very high speed. One further noteworthy feature is the TrackID. If you listen to a song on the radio but do not know who plays it, you can use this piece of software to track the album and the artist. A really incredible feature!

Sony Ericsson W850i has a built in camera that renders very good quality pictures, using both the zoom and the digital flash. Then, you can also record all sorts of things as well as make 3G video calls. There is no autofocus included in the design, which makes the model slightly inferior to Sony Ericsson K800i for instance. Despite this minor flaw, it seems that this Walkman phone will be difficult to match in terms of quality. A cheaper non-3G version of Sony Ericsson W850i can also be bought in case you are after a bargain. Consider both variants carefully and see which works best for you!

Sony Ericsson T700

July 15th, 2009
Comments Off

Maybe Sony Ericsson T700 is a phone that tricks one with its heavy looks, but the 10 mm slim side prove that it is definitely a false appearance. This mobile combines a really affordable price with great technological features. The telephone is one midrange device that is stylish on the exterior but offers high-speed data, a snappy interface and a decent media. Many people have bought Sony Ericsson T700 not as much for its great looks as for the great price it comes at.

The first things to discuss with regard to Sony Ericsson T700 are the key features as there are more advantages to owning one than disadvantages. It is an extra slim telephone that is also very solid and astonishingly lightweight. The telephone is available in color variants such as black on red, black on silver and shining silver. It has a great aluminum finish which makes it wonderfully elegant. This telephone also has a decent media center, a fast photo browser, location services, smart dialing, a reliable battery cover release mechanism as well as finger print resistant covers.

You may want to also check the quad-band GSM, the Bluetooth, the camera, the memory, the radio, the mouse pointer and the browser options. If we consider the maximum talk time, this will not be higher than 9 hours and 30 minutes, although in standby mode, the phone can last up to 370 hours.

There are some downsides to Sony Ericsson T700 as well, and we cannot let them pass unnoticed. Among these weaker issues the most bothersome could be the faulty sound on the loudspeaker, the fact that it has no office document viewer, the memory size is pretty low and there is no auto-focus.

The company’s product presentation refers to Sony Ericsson T700 as a head turner with the sleek and shiny elegance for a mid-range price. If you are keen on the looks of your phone, you’ll be pleased with what the device has to offer. If you are an older Sony Ericsson user and you may have worked with other models, such as T610 for instance, you’ll fall in love with the T700. With the Sony Ericsson T700 the fast access to various media and the speed of communication are guaranteed all in one. This phone works great no matter whether you want a good looking phone or one that can be shown off in important business meetings.
