Heavenly Sounds for Your Cell Phone: Making Ringtones
Besides the fact that handset phones are portable, they have one distinct feature that sets them apart from ordinary telephones: the feature that allows most of its parts to be changed or customized. Customization provides an advantage in that you don’t always need to publicly announce that something is yours. Customization in cellular phone spans a very broad range that almost borders on the infinite, starting from the conventional hardware to the internal software installed in phones. One of the common methods that you can do to personalize a handset phone is to make ringtones.
Ringtones are primarily used (for those who are not from planet Earth) as an alert tone for a cellular mobile phone for different kinds of alerts, like call alerts, message alerts, e-mail alerts, and even security alerts! The signature sound that ringtones have is very different from the common irritating ringing sounds of legendary telephones, giving catchy tunes, melodies that you can calmly listen to (don’t forget to answer the phone), and even non-musical sounds like sounds of nature and the human voice.
Making ringtones has been relatively easy in terms of the availability of firmware or programs that can be used, as most mobile phones after the 1st generation post-modern models always feature an editor or a mini-studio program that lets you make ringtones yourself! However, a slight musical talent may be necessary to create music properly.
The creation of more sophisticated sounds for ringtones has made them progress from the simplistic 8-bit and 16-bit sounds to a very grand and majestic array of different tunes and melodies not entirely different from the music that you usually hear; in fact, some of them are actually music already! Like having an MP3 player in your handset phone, it sometimes lulls you to the catchy tune, sometimes making me unable to answer a phone call immediately.
There are also numerous for ringtone use in PC’s, whenever you feel like the editing software built in handset phone aren’t enough. In addition, the depth that is added to these music is so complex, that it is now officially indistinguishable from music composed (save for some technos and some playing speed and combinations that are quite impossible for the human hands to do) using actual instruments. But one thing though, it necessitates quite an amount of skill and expertise before you can create magnificent pieces of musical art into these programs.
Nevertheless, making ringtones is nothing less than the luxury of being able to make your
mobile phone stand-out, an item having a label that is yours and yours alone.
